BlackBerry sells 1M BlackBerry Z10 Units, this is some news that’ll make any blackberry fanboy proud (Well, if you exclude the price, esp in the India Subcontinent)
! BlackBerry released its fiscal Q4 2013 earnings early this morning
and they’re more impressive than you would expect for a company going
through some major upheavals.
For a company, that has seen some major changes, to the extent of changing its Brand name from RIM to BlackBerry this couldn’t have been sweeter. BlackBerry have always been focused on a change, that is easy to use and built from the ground up. It focused on a couple of devices rather than a whole list of devices. It maintained that the device will be a welcome change for all those who have been loyal to them till date and it produced the goods !
BlackBerry reported earnings of $0.22 per share on $2.7 billion in revenue. That may not seem great at first glance, but bear in mind the rough patch that the company has been going through (not to mention the lowered forecasts that come with it).The Canadian smartphone manufacturer reported a profit of $98 million, or 19 cents a share, compared with a year-ago loss of $125 million, or 24 cents a share.
More importantly, BlackBerry said it sold 1 million units of the Z10 in the period. The results only include sales from a few early launch markets. Results from the U.S., which first saw the Z10 hit the market on Friday, aren’t part of the fourth quarter. In total, it sold 6 million smartphones.
However to all the goods that the company has managed to churn out, it has suffered on the path chosen. The company sold 6 million smartphones and 370,000 PlayBook tablets, but lost 3 million subscribers, down to 76 million worldwide from 79 million in Q3 and 80 million in Q4. It says it sold six million BlackBerry devices over the past three months, but only a million of them were running BlackBerry 10.
It’s worth noting that BlackBerry’s Q4 2013 ended on March 2nd, 2013. That means these figures don’t reflect the US and Canadian launches of the company’s new flagship smartphone, the Z10.
